The city, Victoria Falls, is famous for its magnificent waterfall, which is listed as one of the “Seven Wonders of the World” and supports an array of activities, including white-water rafting, bungee jumping 111 metres off the Victoria Falls bridge, helicopter rides to give aerial views of the waterfalls, game viewing, majestic sunset cruises on the mighty Zambezi river, night safaris close to nature and the wild and visits to crocodile conservation farming.

For the golfers, the Elephant Hills Resort Hotel boasts an 18-hole golf course designed by Gary Player, the South African professional golfer.

For those who prefer a calmer lifestyle, there are hotels that offer afternoon tea on manicured lawns with views of the famous bridge crossing from Zimbabwe to Zambia, drinks while looking at the mighty Zambezi river, lunchtime experience of feeding of vultures and game viewing from a bar balcony as well as live traditional music from local cultural groups.

For those coming early or staying on for a few days after the congress, the Hwange National Park is well worth a visit. It ranks among the top national parks in Africa in terms of size and the numbers and variety of game, along with spectacular viewing platforms and accommodation including lodges with tree houses (with or without windows) to make you feel at one with nature! The Hwange National Park harbours all the Big Five animals (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant and buffalo) with an estimate of over 108 species of animals and an impressive bird life! The best time for game viewing is August to November, the dry winter months when the grass is low and watering holes are the main spots for the animals.

Hwange National Park is about 102 kilometres from Victoria Falls and shuttle buses can be hired in Victoria Falls and take about 1 hour 15 minutes, each way – an overnight stay or two nights at Hwange are recommended to benefit from early morning and mid-afternoon game drives.
